An Introduction to Berkshire

The Royal County of Berkshire, in the South East region of England, is located immediately to the west of London and is one of the 'Home Counties'. Whilst its proximity to London ensures a large and affluent population, Berkshire still possesses much rural scenery, including long stretches of the River Thames. The county is most famed for Windsor, with its historic royal castle, but other towns such as Ascot and villages such as Bray and Eton that are unique and worth a visit. There are many attractions and pretty villages throughout the Thames Valley.

Things to do in Berkshire

Berkshire is home to Windsor Castle, making it a royal county, which is open to the public and Windsor Great park, a vast space containing roaming deer. For younger visitors the county is home to the adventure park Legoland which is also the largest lego store in England. The county is also home to Ascot and Newbury race courses.

The nearest airport to Berkshire is London Heathrow which is 35 minutes from the county.

The majority of trains in Berkshire are managed by First Great Western. The train service from London Waterloo takes under an hour.

National Express and Megabus travel from around the United Kingdom to Berkshire and Green line runs coaches from London to Berkshire. The county is served mainly by Arriva and First buses.

Berkshire is served by the M4, M25, A404 and A329 and is under an hours drive from London.
